The arts have been proven to enhance children's cognitive abilities in math, reading, and physical coordination. It also creates an awareness of their surroundings, which enables a deepening sense of community. From a child's perspective, art is just exciting and fun.
I have combined Story Time and the principles of art education in my book, 'The Adventures of Gil McFarland.' The concept behind these illustrations is that the character Gil, a classroom pet, is listening to story time and imagining what the teacher is reading. When he imagines, he pictures the creature as an art project that will be described later in the book. Gil, then, goes on to visit these creatures within the safety of his bowl.
The structure of this book is to promote learning through imagination, discovery and structured creative expression.
In other works, I chose well-known people that have influenced society or have, in my opinion, a socially healthy attitude. Each piece conceptually describes that person's opinion or achievements. Lastly, there are a few images that are again conceptually based- but just fun.
